Theatre for Young Audiences by Mountain Theatre Company
Providing Children Access to Live Professional Theatre!
At Mountain Theatre Company, we believe strongly in the benefits of giving children access to professional theatre. According to a 2019 study by the National Endowment for the Arts, "Seeing live theater offers a range of academic, social, and emotional benefits to children. This includes…an increased hope for their own future, with the ability to imagine attending college and envisioning success; a greater recognition that the arts can have a place in their lives in the present and future; improved engagement and behavior in school environments…increased success on standardized tests; higher writing scores; and a stronger command of narrative devices."

In the fall of 2022, Mountain Theatre Company produced our first Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production with A Wrinkle in Time. This production featured a professional cast and creative team.
By working with local schools in the surrounding counties of Macon, Jackson, Transylvania, and Rabun, we were able to provide educational field trips for over 800 students to experience professional theatre completely free of charge. We also offered select evening and Saturday matinee performances for all to attend with a “pay what you can” ticketing plan.
