In 2022, we are excited to launch our new initiative,
Theatre for Young Audiences by Mountain Theatre Company.
A WRINKLE IN TIME
Written by John Glore
Adapted from the novel by Madeleine L'Engle
Directed by Lindsay Garner Hostetler
It was a dark and stormy night when the story of one of literature’s most enduring young heroines begins. Meg Murry is a short-tempered math nerd who doesn’t fit in. Her scientist father vanished over two years ago, under mysterious circumstances. When a bizarre stranger arrives at Meg’s home in the middle of the night, she beckons Meg on a dangerous and extraordinary adventure across time and space. Aided by her gifted younger brother, Charles Wallace, and her friend, Calvin O’Keefe, Meg Murry finds herself on a mission to battle the forces of evil, rescue her father, save humanity, and maybe – just maybe learn something about herself. Madeleine L’Engle’s Newberry Medal winning novel comes to life on stage in this breathtaking and exciting theatrical adaptation.

Supporting TYA at MTC
We are excited to launch our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production into our 2022 fall season with A Wrinkle in Time. This production will feature a professional cast and team of designers. By working with local schools in surrounding counties, we aim to provide educational field trips to the Highlands Playhouse for students to experience professional theatre completely free of charge. We will also offer select evening and Saturday matinee performances for all to attend with a “pay what you can” ticketing plan.
At Mountain Theatre Company, we believe strongly in the benefits of giving children access to professional theatre. According to a 2019 study by the National Endowment for the Arts, "Seeing live theater offers a range of academic, social, and emotional benefits to children. This includes…an increased hope for their own future, with the ability to imagine attending college and envisioning success; a greater recognition that the arts can have a place in their lives in the present and future; improved engagement and behavior in school environments…increased success on standardized tests; higher writing scores; and a stronger command of narrative devices."
We are proud to have received seed money for MTC's first TYA production from a Mountain Findings grant. We are currently raising additional funds needed to cover the cost of our 2022 TYA production. Please consider making a donation at the link below to help us launch this groundbreaking program for our community's youth.

Mountain Theatre Company is thrilled to grow our Theatre For Young Audiences (TYA) and community outreach initiatives with this new Show Guide resource series. We can’t wait to share the magic of live theater with you at the historic Highlands Playhouse!
This Show Guide will assist students, educators, and parents in preparing for your trip to the Playhouse and is designed especially for enhancing the experience of attending an MTC production. Our goal is to provide a valuable resource for the production you attend, as well as an educational tool for your classroom, home, or simply a conversation over dessert after the show.
